About FHT Nottingham LSG

Meetings the 4th Tuesday evening of every other month

Arnold Library Meeting Room NG5 7EE

For Therapists, students and people interested in health and well-being

In February 2007, Jacky Huson and Jayne Newsome launched the FHT Nottingham Local Support Group aiming to make therapists feel part of a wider network and meet other therapists to share experiences and knowledge. It is backed by The Federation of Holistic Therapists (www.fht.org.uk) – the largest multi-disciplinary therapy organisation in the UK. You do not have to belong to FHT to attend local support group meetings – it is open to all therapists and members of the public who are interested in health and well-being.

Getting to know other therapists locally can bring all kinds of benefits – a ‘listening ear’ when needing advice or support on a challenging work-related issue, treatment ‘swaps’ (informally, through our Therapy Exchange Register), an opportunity to share information and experiences and arrange lifts to conferences etc. Group outings have included Bodyworlds, Holistic Health at NEC and Purelands Meditation Garden.

We arrange talks on a range of topics by locally and nationally known experienced speakers, which may be followed up with workshops. Each meeting will earn therapists 2 Continuing Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) points.

Each June we run a ‘Chill-Out Zone’ at the Southwell Folk Festival offering treatments from 10 minutes to 1 hour.

So far we’ve had talks – some with follow-up workshops – on Advanced Reflexology, Shirodhara, Balinese Massage, Baby Massage, Marketing and Money, Emotional Freedom Technique, First Aid, Advanced Massage Techniques, Complementary Therapies in Pregnancy, Bach Flower Remedies, Tsuboki Facial Massage, Reiki, Natural Herbal Medicine, Homeopathy, Trigger points and MET. Future plans include Hypnotherapy, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Meditation, Kinesiology, Shiatsu, Crystals and many more.

We have a ‘closed’ online email support group which members who have been to meetings can join.

As a member of http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/fhtnottinghamlsg/ you can

  • receive news on group events
  • ‘electronically talk’ to each other
  • post queries about training, therapies, techniques etc. and receive answers from other members,
  • advertise events you hear about, or equipment for sale/wanted
  • refer on clients who need a therapy different from the ones you offer or who live too far away to visit you
  • post a request to share lifts to events, conferences etc.

……………………..in short – anything that other members might be interested in.

From the home page once you’re logged in, you can see

  • a calendar showing all our events (fast-track to ‘Events List’),
  • a database of members with their contact details
  • a downloadable booking form for workshops
  • files of newsletters and other information
  • links to other appropriate websites such as your own or those you’ve found useful and interesting.

We also have a Facebook presence – www.facebook.com/FhtNottinghamLocalSupportGroup

We welcome suggestions from members as to what they would like to be included in meetings or other activities, outings etc.
