Holistic Massage

The word massage originates from many languages –

  • massa (Latin) – ‘lump’
  • massein (Greek) – ‘knead’
  • masser (French) – ‘rub’
  • mas’h (Arabic) – ‘touch’

We have an instinctive reaction to pain which is to rub when and where it is present.

Many cultures -includng the Ancient Greeks, Egyptions Chinese and Indians – were convinced of the therapeutic properties of massage and used it to treat a variety of ailments.

Holistic Massage/Holistic Medical Massage

Depending on your needs, this therapeutic massage can be totally aimed at relaxing you, or may be a combination of relaxation with some of the treatment focussing on particular areas of tension or pain or completely focussed on remedial bodywork to help you out of pain.

A personalised treatment can be anything from a full body massage (60 to 90 minutes) to a 30 minutes session targetted at particular problem areas.

A treatment will combine a variety of proven techniques which may include heat, stretching, trigger point work and massage movements which work at differing levels on the tissue layers, and aim to increase the benefits of traditional Swedish massage.

Movements such as effleurage (smooth stroking) work over the skin with the palm of the hand, soothing soft tissue and encouraging relaxation, whereas movements like petrissage (wringing and kneading) will help to relieve tension in the tissues and muscles.

Tapotement (percussion) ‘wakes up’ muscles and invigorates circulation.
