Help for Heroes

In May 2024 Michael (my colleague at FABcamps) and I attended the residential days at SportScotland Inverclyde National Sports Training Centre arranged by Help for Heroes for veterans who served in Northern Ireland during the troubles, many of whom still live there.

It was a ‘pilot’ for the new partnership between Help for Heroes and Healing Hands Network.

It was a wonderful success with every veteran (and partner) having at least one treatment and some having multiple treatments – up to 5 during the 4 days! Some of the staff also had a treatment while participants were in recovery workshops. We delivered a total of 37 treatments. A very worthwhile and satisfying experience for everyone.

The facilities at the centre are fully accessible and modern with welcoming staff. The grounds are delightfully landscaped with pleasant walks. We were accommodated in the Centre and partook of the generous and various meals in the refectory. We joined in the morning walks, quiz and Boccia and otherwise we were busy with treatments apart from a couple of hours on the last afternoon. A thoroughly busy time.

Largs is a lovely town with famous Nardinis ice cream, delicious fish and chips and a Viking museum.
